Volkswagen Reveals Hybrid Golf Concept

Volkswagen has revealed a 396bhp hybrid Golf concept. This is the first hybrid vehicle from Volkswagen to carry a GTI badge, the electrified Golf will be accompanied by a GTE estate.

A ten year tradition by Volkswagen has revealed two new electrified models that pack a punch. The two models were revealed at the W├Ârthersee meeting in Austria named the Golf GTI First Decade and GTE Estate ImpulsE.

Both of the new cars feature hybrid technology in their powertrains, the Golf is powered by a 396bhp petrol engine which drives the front wheels, whilst a 48V 12kW electric motor powers the rear wheels. The two systems can either work together or separately, making rear and all-wheel-drive possible. This will depend on the motor that is chosen; the motor can be change via an app or thought the car's infotainment system.

A team of apprentices from Volkswagen's Brunswick and Wolfburg facilities are the brains behind the cars; to add a personal touch they chose blue for the exterior colourway which represents the W├Ârthersee lake and blue sky.

Although the car on the outside looks like an absolute monster, the interior is quite reserved. The exterior features a clubsport rear spoiler and 20" mb-design alloy wheels, whilst the interior has blue highlights throughout, blue contracting upholstery stitching and some LED lights. In the boot you'll find a subwoofer that works with an 11-speaker sound system.

Volkswagen's Worthersee show cars haven't made it to production in previous years, but it's highly likely that the 2.0-litre engine in the GTI could make it on our roads in the future.
