The sixth Student Car has unique highlights such as lighting effects and Simply Clever features. In case you weren’t aware since 2014 ŠKODA has been showcasing the high quality of the training at the ŠKODA Vocational School in Mladá Boleslav.

SKODA MOUNTIAQ: Design and Inspiration

On the 3rd of June 2019, 35 apprentices from seven different career paths spent 8 months working dilligently to present this pickup - inspired by the KODIAQ.

A unique new Sunset Orange paint finish and numerous visual highlights have been introduced to the MOUNTIAQ, such as a light bar on the roof and a distinctive front featuring a winch, bullbar and special lighting effects. For the sixth consecutive time, the project acts as a showcase for the apprentice’s technical skills.

As Carsten Brandes, Head of the ŠKODA Academy, points out, “Like its predecessor models, the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ highlights the exceptional technical competence and craftsmanship of our students. Year after year, their work demonstrates the superior quality of the professional training at our vocational school.”

The name ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ shows spirit of adventure and off-road flair, whilst grouping the appeal of a contemporary lifestyle vehicle with the extraordinary everyday usability of a pickup. The rear of the spectacular concept car bears the design element "ŠKODA" wordmark in individual letters (introduced in Europe with models SCALA and KAMIQ).

Since the apprentices started their work on the new Student Concept Car in autumn 2018, more than 2,000 hours of intense work has been dedicated to the MOUNTIAQ.

Building the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ with our own hands was a unique opportunity for all of us, as we were able to use our theoretical know-how in a practical context” - Petr Zemanec.

SKODA MOUNTIAQ: Implementation

After the design process was completed, a production phase took place in January 2019. This included body and paint shop work. They started by fortifying the body, which was followed by the removal of the KODIAQ's roof as well as constructing a rear panel for the cab.

A new rear window and side windows were also introduced. Behind the cab of the MOUNTIAQ, a load bed was built, along with a hidden storage compartment underneath. The doors were shortened and widened, fitting them within the wider overall proportions of the pickup. The appearance of the pickup was rounded off by modified bumpers both at the front and rear. The MOUNTIAQ gets a set of running boards on the door sills, and THUS the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ was born!

SKODA MOUNTIAQ: Dimensions

Increased ground clearance and a muscular engine for the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ. The pickup is 4,999 millimetres long, 2,005 millimetres wide and 1,710 millimetres tall. The wheelbase is 2,788 millimetres, and the vehicle weighs in at 2,450 kilograms. A muscular 2.0 TSI petrol engine delivers ample 140 kW (190 PS) of power.

SKODA MOUNTIAQ: Off-Road

For the true off-road look and feel, the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ stands on resilient off-road wheels, which will be sure to turn heads. A raised air intake snorkel and the winch at the front is framed by a bullbar, allowing the concept car to demand immediate attention. The winch and its specially designed mount are built to withstand the most extreme stresses encountered in off-road use.

The creativity and care dedicated to the lighting for the MOUNTIAQ haven’t gone unnoticed. The ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ’s radiator grille and brand logo on the bonnet and engine bay also feature lighting effects. The front doors project a premium-look ŠKODA logo onto the road, and the pickup’s front section sports new fog lights.

Other standout design features are the unique light bar on the roof and the special Sunset Orange paint finish developed by the students. You can see more of this on interior images below. -road use.

SKODA MOUNTIAQ: Interior & Features

Small details such as a glowing ŠKODA logo in the roof lining had been designed by the students, also including an integrated refrigerator, 3D-printed wheel hub ornaments and two walkie-talkies that come as part of the vehicle.

Students also designed a unique logo for the ŠKODA MOUNTIAQ. The logo consists of a car in front of a mountain silhouette, which has been embroidered on the front seats’ backrests. The stitching is a reflection of the unique Sunset Orange exterior paint finish, which has been further added to highlights on the steering wheel and shift lever.

The first ŠKODA Student Concept Car was built in 2014. It was a two-seater version of the ŠKODA CITIGO, named the CITIJET. It was then followed by the FUNSTAR, which was a ŠKODA FABIA pickup, and the ATERO, a coupé which was based on the ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK. In 2017, the ŠKODA CITIGO was used as their basis to build the electric ELEMENT. The fifth Student Concept Car was the 2018 SUNROQ, a convertible concept based on the ŠKODA KAROQ.

“We also benefited from the new connections we were able to establish with students on other career paths. We will never forget the over 2,000 hours of work we spent making our unique pickup.” - Petr Zemanec.
