14 worldwide corporations’ control over 60 car brands around the world. The automotive industry is growing at a rapid rate, with over 2,500,000 new cars registered in the UK alone in 2017. With over 34.7 million cars currently on UK roads, what car brands are actually controlling the automotive industry?
In 2017, the UK automotive industry had a turnover of £82 billion, so there's no doubt that the motor industry is BIG money.
Around the world, there are many different brands and models, from small cheap cars, all the way up to very expensive exotic supercars.
There are over 60 major car brands in the world with only around 14 global corporations owning the majority of the world's major car brands.
As you can see from our King of the Road infographic there are many different car brands throughout the world, yet there are just a handful that own most of them.
And no... We didn't forget the likes of Ferrari, Mazda, McLaren, Tesla and Subaru. The reason they haven't been included is because for the most part they don't belong to a global car company. As you can see, the automotive industry has a confusing family tree. Over the past few years there have been a few move, acquisitions and sales of companies.
