The Jaguar E-PACE is a five-seat compact SUV, offering design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a spacious and practical all-wheel-drive vehicle. Jaguar has high hopes for the E-PACE and believes this new crossover will invite more drivers to the Jaguar family.
Has Jaguar done enough to sway buyers away from the Range Rover Evoque?
Here's everything you need to know about the Jaguar E-PACE.
The E-PACE comes with two trims, the E-PACE and E-PACE R-DYNAMIC. However, during its first year of sales, Jaguar have released a First Edition model. An exclusive solid colour is available for the First Edition, called 'Caldera Red'. Alternatively, you could pick either Santorini Black or Yulong White. The First Edition model has a starting price of £48,115 and is packed with gadgets and features which can be found in the higher tier models.
If you pick the Jaguar E-PACE trim, the prices you will find start from £28,930. The S offers leather trimmed interior and Connect Pro Pack and starts from £31,990, the SE offers 14-way memory front seats, powered tailgate and Meridian Sound System and starts from £37,720. The HSE offers Windsor leather seats with 18-way memory for the two front seats, keyless entry and gesture tailgate. 12.3” Interactive Driver Display and starts from £40,520.
If you go for the sportier looking R-DYNAMIC trim, the prices start from £30,320. The S starts from £33,380 and offers the same features as it would on the regular E-PACE S trim. The SE starts from £39,270 and the HSE starts from £42,080.
The Jaguar E-PACE is completely customisable, you can add additional packs and features to suit your preference. These options do cost money, however. If you spent long enough adding new features to your E-PACE build, you could look at spending around the £80,000 mark.
It isn’t difficult to find the distinct inspiration from the Jaguar F-TYPE when you first glance at the E-PACE. The large open-styled grille has been adopted as well as the short overhangs, muscular proportions and sharp but powerful haunches, where the tail-lights represent a slim, blade-like image. All this is combined with the space, safety and practicality associated with a compact SUV. This being said, it isn’t hard to understand how the E-PACE is being compared to Land Rover’s Discovery Sport, inside and out.
If you prefer larger wheels to complete your vehicle’s look, you can choose Jaguar’s 21-inch alloys to give your Jag a bold and unique stance. The E-PACE captures its sportiness by its swooping roofline and its side windows play a part in its aerodynamic image by resembling a teardrop shape where the point meets at the rear end of the vehicle. LED headlights and a rear view camera system comes standard with the E-PACE.
The R-DYNAMIC trim offers front fog lights and a Gloss Black finish. The grille, tailpipe finishers and rear valance are given a similar finish. The wheel-arch surrounds are body-coloured. The side vents and grille surrounds are made up of satin and chrome, which separates, but also distinguishes the R-DYNAMIC from the E-PACE.
A fixed panoramic roof is also available as an option, it enhances the style of your E-PACE and is sure to stand out in the crowd. The panoramic roof line has a black finish which extends the entire length of the roof, from the windscreen to the trailing edge of the roof spoiler. This style has been inspired by the F-TYPE Coupé.
The E-PACE comes with a range of colours, 11 colours, to be exact:
Caldera Red (First Edition Only), Fuji White (Solid), Borasco Grey, Firenze Red, Caesium Blue, Yulong White, Indus Silver, Santorini Black, Corris Grey (Metallic), Farallon Pearl Black and Silicon Silver (Premium Metallic).
The E-PACE has also adopted the Gesture Tailgate, which is an optional feature that allows you to approach your vehicle and open your boot without needing to use your key fob. Either side of the rear bumper is fitted with a sensor, and will close the boot using the same technique should you wish to activate it.
The E-PACE has exceptional interior space for a vehicle in this class. It can comfortably seat 5 adults with its generous rear legroom. The luggage capacity holds 577 litres with the rear seats in place makes the E-PACE’s boot space plenty large enough to cope with family life, with one of the widest load compartments.
Premium leathers are used on key touch-points such as the steering wheel, centre-console grab handle and gear shifter to enhance quality and perfection. The seats have been designed with durable materials. If you’re looking for more luxury quality inside your Jaguar, you can pick the Windsor leather seating pack to achieve this.
The interior lighting in the E-PACE illuminates key features from handles to stowage areas. All lighting is configurable to the driver’s personal preference.
High levels of standard equipment are a core component of the E-PACE range. Convenience features such as Touch Pro infotainment, are joined by advanced driver assistance systems including Driver Condition Monitor and Emergency Braking. Dynamic, modern, high-quality design amplifies driving experience. Jaguar’s Touch Pro infotainment system is a standard feature which offers natural voice control technology, a 10-inch touchscreen display and a customisable home screen.
The satellite navigation feature will continue to guide you, even when GPS signals cannot be found. You can further enhance your experience with your smartphone by using Route Planner. This will give you the benefit of planning your journeys, whether you are driving, walking or using public transport. The E-PACE uses Commute Mode, which learns your regular route so it can automatically offer alternative routes to avoid congestion. An ETA can be sent to your contacts, as well as offering you nearby parking facilities.
The E-PACE was achieved an impeccable 5-star Euro NCAP reward for its safety and has been ranked among the safest of the market. Jaguar designed the E-PACE to meet all safety standards worldwide. There are safety systems in place to protect you, passengers and even pedestrians throughout your journey.
The E-PACE comes with a stereo camera which supports the advanced Emergency Braking system. It protects pedestrians with a detection monitor and deployable airbag. It supports Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. The Adaptive Speed Limiter and Driver Condition Monitor is also available to the E-PACE. Front and Rear Parking Aids come as standard on every vehicle, which allows you to operate manoeuvres with great ease.
In all petrol models, the E-PACE use 2.0-litre engines which come with four-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox as standard. P200 is Jaguar's entry-level engine which has 197bhp and gets from 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds. The P250 has 246bhp and can get from 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds. The fastest E-PACE in the range is the P300 which has 296bhp and can manage 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds.
The D150 is Jaguar's entry-level diesel engine. It is a 2.0-litre engine and has 148bhp, this will bring the E-PACE from 0-60mph in 9.5 seconds. It is a front-wheel drive and offers a manual gearbox. You could choose a four-wheel drive for this engine, but this lengthens the 0-60mph to 9.9 seconds using a manual gearbox, or 10.5 seconds with an automatic gearbox.
You can choose the D180, which has the same 2.0-litre diesel engine but this one offers 178bhp. If you chose a manual, four-wheel drive you could expect to do 0-60mph in 9.4 seconds. The automatic gearbox will give you 8.6 seconds.
The D240 is the highest priced diesel engine. It is a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine and has 237bhp. This engine gives you an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive as standard. The 0-60mph is 6.8 seconds.
The E-PACE comes with four driving controls. They come standard across the range and are as follows:
• Normal – For regular journeys, the E-PACE will offer a good balance of performance and comfort.
• Dynamic – Will allow for a more responsive driving experience. Depending on the specifications you have selected for your vehicle, it will adjust the steering, throttle response, Adaptive Dynamics, AWD/Active Driveline, transmission shift strategy, Dynamic Stability Control and Torque Vectoring by Braking.
• ECO – Changes settings in order to make the journey more fuel efficient.
• Rain, Ice and Snow – For the low-grip conditions, it will enhance stability. Dynamic Stability Control will be enhanced, along with the throttle response and automatic transmission.
