iPhones to Block Notifications Whilst Driving in New iOS 11

SOON; Apple will introduce a new iPhone feature, 'Do Not Disturb While Driving' which will block notifications.

The new feature is called "Do Not Disturb While Driving," this feature will be available in Apple's iOS 11 and will block in-coming notifications when driving.

Whenever the phone is connected to a car via Bluetooth or a cable, or even if the car is moving, the phone will withhold notifications such as text messages, news updates and even Tinder matches whilst you drive. The new feature is an initiative by Apple to stop motorists getting distracted whilst driving.

If you do receive a text or notification whilst driving the phone can respond with an automatic message, telling the sender that you're driving and you will respond later.

Another feature of "Do Not Disturb While Driving" is that the iPhone screen will be locked, preventing drivers from using the phone.

For users that use Apple Maps as a SAT NAV, you will still be able to see the map whilst driving, but you won't be able to input destinations. Competitor apps like Google Maps will still work too but not as well.

Drivers can still use Apple CarPlay if your car is equipped with it, this will allow users to respond to text messages with voice command as well as other compatible apps and features.

Nissan has previously attempted to solve the problem with a 'Safe Box' in the armrest which will block notifications but this is still in development.

Research has shown that almost 11million UK motorists use their phone whilst driving, despite the risk of getting hit with six penalty points and a £200 fine.
