Ford Ranger: Efficient, Smart and a True Workhorse

The Ford Ranger pickup is an efficient workhorse, with the latest edition of the Ford Ranger, Ford has offered improved fuel efficiency and design over the outgoing model as well as better technology. [SEE: Ford Ranger Van Leasing Offers]

With nearly every manufacturer having their own variant of a pickup and each offering different qualities. Does the Ford Ranger have enough to compete with the likes of the luxury Mercedes-Benz X-Class or the trusty Mitsubishi L200.

Here's everything you need to know about the Ford Ranger.

Ford Ranger: Price

The Ford Ranger is competitively priced when compared to rival vehicles such as the Volkswagen Amarok. Throughout the range, you get a decent amount of technology, even on the entry-level models, but its worth noting that higher trim levels in the range will be more comfortable and benefit from advanced technology.

Whilst the XL and XLT are fit for purpose, the Limited trim level and above feels like a totally different vehicle. The Limited trim adds 17" alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and leather seats along with a lot more.

The entry-level model is the XL which starts from £22,374, going one up in the range takes you to the XLT model which starts from £27,174. One of the go-to models in the range is the Limited, that still has the practicality factor, although it will be a bit more comfortable.

The Wildtrak - the range-topping model excluding special editions - starts from £34,014, adding extra styling that sets it apart from the rest of the range and additional technology over the Limited trim.

Ford Ranger: Practicality and Sizes

Regular Cab Ford Rangers are only a two-seater, whereas Super Cab models have seating for an extra 2 passengers behind the front seats.

The Double Cab Ranger certainly offers more practicality and comfort and will seat four adults comfortably. With space for more passengers, the rear load bay becomes shorter, the regular cab would be more practical for those who need a larger load bay, although, Double Cab models can still fit a standard pallet in the load bay.

The Payload weight of the Ranger depends on the cab type and engine that you go for. Most models will carry over 1 tonne with some being able to carry up to 1232kg.

The Ranger is one of the best pickups out there in terms of towing, all rangers can pull trailers up to 2500kg which really sets it apart from its competitors.

Ford Ranger: Interior and Technology

SUVs have become a staple on UK roads, the UK car market has heavily shifted towards compact and large SUVs which means other classes of vehicles borrow characteristics and styling from them.

With the Ford Ranger, Ford has tried to mimic the styling of an SUV on the interior and has achieved that. Whilst you still get the ruggedness of a pickup, you benefit from a more comfortable interior that most drivers will be familiar with if they have driven an SUV.

The Ranger is quite big, especially on UK roads, on lower trims, you may want to opt for rear parking sensors, as they are only standard on the Limited models, whereas a rear-view camera is included on the range-topping Wildtrak model.

The entry-level XL version gets a simple monochrome infotainment screen with Bluetooth and DAB radio. On the XLT model, you'll get Ford's 4.2" Sync touchscreen infotainment system. The Limited and Wildtrak versions get Ford's latest Sync 3 software on a larger 8" touchscreen.

The Ranger benefits from six-way manual adjustment with adjustable lumbar support on entry-level models. The Wildtrak trim gets eight-way powered seats as standard.
